Cambridge born, Sam Smith had an early start to his musical career, being mentored in his teens by jazz vocalist Joanna Eden. At only 20, he got his first taste of fame when he was featured on British electronic duo Disclosure’s 2012 single “Latch”.
The February the following year, “Lay Me Down”, the lead single from his debut album, “In the Lonely Hour” was released and the album itself hit the streets in 2014.
The single peaked at number 46 the first time round but it was re-released in 2015 and this time round made it to number 8 in the Billboard Hot 100 and 15 in the British charts.
The same song finally reached number one in the UK charts in 2015 when it was released a third time , this time when it was recorded with John Legend as part of the charity telethon Comic Relief.
Smith’s debut album contained several gems, among them, “I’m Not the Only One”, “Like I Can” and “Money on my Mind”. His smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics quickly won him a large fan base. No doubt, every single one of them are as thrilled as we are to see Sam Smith live in his 2018, The Thrill of It concert tour.
