It’s hard to imagine, but New York punk band Blondie have been rocking our world for over 40 years. In fact their 40th anniversary celebration album, Blondie 4(0) Ever was released back in 2013.

For many young Brit lads of the late 70s, the memory of an extremely sexy Debbie Harry crooning ‘… ooh Denis, ooby doo…’ is one they will never forget. In fact, such a presence was she that many people thought she herself was ‘the’ blondie, with a backing band.

That’s not the case. Blondie was founded by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein in the early seventies, and together with bandmates Clem Burke and Gary Valentine they released their self-titled debut album in 1976. While the initial reception was luke-warm, a change to Chrysalis Records and a lucky break in Australia (when a b-side video, played by accident took wing), the band were on their way.

Now, all these years later, Blondie is going stronger than ever. Their support slot for Phil Collins in London’s Hyde Park on June 30 was a blast, with Debbie Harry coming on stage dressed in a bumblebee headdress as a nod to the new album Pollinator. Both old and new songs were played and fans (both old and new) can expect the same of the Blondie’s 2017 UK tour.

For sure, however popular their new songs off Pollinator may get, it would not be a Blondie concert without solid favourites like ‘Heart of Glass’, ‘Sunday Girl’, ‘Call Me’ and the like.

Blondie fans in Brighton can find out for themselves on November 8th when Debbie Harry and the rest of the band play the Brighton Centre. Have you got your tickets yet?
