Canadian quartet Badbadnotgood (BBNG for short), began their musical career as a threesome playing jazz covers of hip hop songs by the likes of Kanye West and Gucci Mane. Their first few albums contained mostly covers and only a very few of their own material so it was not until the third album III that their own original songs got a proper airing.
A few songs on that album featured the expressive Leland Whitty on horn and he soon became the fourth regular member on the band, joining them for the next album IV.
The line up now is Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, Leland Whitty on saxophone and drummer, Alexander Sowinski, who will often wear a pig mask, because … why not?
BBNG are currently embarked on a long international tour which includes gigs in Canada, US, Ireland. Italy, Germany, Norway, Netherlands, France, and Poland, and of course, the UK.
Having started their tour in Kentish own, the lads are looping back to the UK for three dates in November 2017.
Badbadnotgood – London Roundhouse – 14/11/2017
Last year, The Guardian’s Ben Cardew described BBNG as “..a bombastic trifle, the band layer jazz, soul and funk on to a base of wobbly improvisation and top it all off with a layer of hip-hop swagger. ”
If that sounds up your alley, then grab your tickets for the band’s concert in the London Roundhouse on 14th November 2017, right here.
